Please plan to join us for the Nova Scotia Health and Safety Leadership Charter Annual Conference taking place Wednesday, November 9th from 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21.

This is a “must attend” event for corporate, government and organizational leaders who are devoted to advancing health and safety in their workplaces. Many senior leaders have already made a commitment by becoming signatories of the Health and Safety Leadership Charter. Charter members, non Charter members and leaders in safety associations and organizations are also encouraged to attend.

The focus of the conference will be “Mental Health in the Workplace” and we are delighted to announce Louise Bradley, President and CEO of the Mental Health Commission of Canada as our keynote speaker. Her presentation is titled: Employee Mental Health- a Made in Canada Solution Hard at Work in Nova Scotia The Mental Health Commission of Canada has recently championed the development of the “National Standard of Canada for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.” Louise will discuss the relevance of The Standard, and the role of senior leaders as stewards of the Standard, and, in turn, their role in creating psychologically healthy workplaces.

The conference program will also feature two breakout sessions:

Leadership Required for Mental Health in the Workplace

This session will be focused toward corporate leaders, and led by Louise and co-presenter Cecelia MacLellan, Director Customer Care Contact Centers, Staples. They will share information and experiences to ensure that organizations are equipped to promote employee psychological health and to prevent psychological harm due to workplace factors. The Panel will discuss the importance of leadership and continuing involvement of organization leaders in creating and maintaining psychologically healthier workplaces. Leadership matters!

Best Practices and Networks to support Health and Safety Mentors

This session will be lead by Joel Carroll, CEO, Falck Safety Services Canada and will include a panel of Nova Scotia Health and Safety leaders. This will be a working session to share “best practices” and to further establish mentor groups across the Province and to develop mechanisms to share materials and experiences so all can benefit and learn from other members. Safety Tours and Workshops will be discussed. The goal is to “come away” with concrete plans to advance Nova Scotia as the healthiest and safest place to live and work in Canada. The Health and Safety Charter new website will be presented as one way to further our goals. This session will forge a new local network of colleagues to share best practices and to draw upon in the future should a need arise.

A conference wrap up and networking lunch will provide attendees with an opportunity to meet, exchange ideas, and share experiences.
